The teachers are almost like friends. They all say 'hi' and know your name,
even if you haven't been in one of their classes. I didn't realize how much

Faculty and Staff

Watershed High School is administered by faculty, staff, and a board working from a model of consensus. Faculty and board members work together to chart the course of Watershed based on the model of human development presented by Rudolf Steiner and the needs of the school’s community.

Christina Beck, main lesson teacher, 11th grade co-sponsor, enrollment coordinator, and faculty co-chair, has a BA in creative writing from Hamilton College, and an MFA in creative writing from Vermont College. She is also a graduate of Waldorf high school teacher training.

Betty Edwards, administrative support, has 12 years experience providing customer service and administrative support. She holds a BA in Communications from Linfield College and a Master's degree in Adult Education from the University of Minnesota.
Phil Grant, administrator, has 15 years experience in K-12 classrooms and six years as a K-8 principal. A graduate of the University of St. Thomas with a BA in history, Phil also received a BS and Master's of Education from the University of Minnesota and has completed programs in educational leadership from Cal State-East Bay and the University of St. Thomas.
Jamie Hepner, dean of students, is a graduate of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts.
Paul Janowiec, math teacher (algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus), received his BA in mathematics from the University of Minnesota and his MA in Education from the University of St. Thomas. Most recently, he taught at Nay Ah Shing Upper School, Mille Lacs Band, MN.
Rachel Koniar, visual arts teacher, is licensed to teach visual art in K-12 schools. She has has worked with at-risk youth and special education students, particularly EBD students. She has been teaching at Wayzata Central Middle School and continues to work there part time as she teaches at Watershed.
Pamela Lien, registrar, district assessment coordinator, and 504 coordinator, has a BA in English and art from Augsburg College.
Rhonda Lingen, Spanish instructor, recently returned from Costa Rica where she lived and taught for 10 years. She has a BS in Biology and BA in Spanish from the University of North Dakota and a Master’s in Education in Second Languages and Cultures from the University of Minnesota. Rhonda is licensed in K-12 Spanish and ESL.
Matt McElrath, social studies teacher, head of the athletics department, and 9th grade sponsor, graduated from the University of Minnesota with degrees in History and French Studies. He did coursework at the University of Idaho, and received his Master’s in education from the University of Minnesota.
Mark McGarraugh, main lesson teacher, math instructor (algebra), and 11th grade co-sponsor, has a BA in social studies from Yale University and a Master’s in Public Health from the University of Minnesota in biostatistics and epidemiology. He is currently completing a Master’s in education at Hamline University.
Deb Pelinski, main lesson teacher, performing arts instructor, faculty co-chair, and 12th grade sponsor, has a BA in speech and dramatic arts from the University of Iowa. She completed a Master of Fine Arts in theater with an emphasis in acting at Illinois State University. Her teaching licensure in English and theater comes from the University of Northern Iowa where she minored in English as well.

Maggie Rozycki, visual arts teacher and 10th grade sponsor, has degrees in studio art and sociology from the University of Minnesota, and a Master’s in art education.
Jessica Scherer, music electives teacher, has a BA in Instrumental Music Education from the College of St. Benedict and St. John's University.

Terry Tyler, special education teacher, has been working with special needs students since 2003. She is licensed in specific learning disabilities and emotional/behavioral disorders, and completed her Master's Degree in Special Education in 2005.
